Super Fast Charging and Super Fast Charging 2.0

What Galaxy asks of a charger, and how PPS answers it.

Samsung Galaxy phones take their fastest charge over PPS, the programmable mode of USB Power Delivery. Super Fast Charging (SFC) is 25 W over PPS. Super Fast Charging 2.0 (SFC 2.0) is 45 W over PPS, the rate Galaxy S Ultra and Z Fold use, and it needs a USB-C cable rated for 5 A.

Two names, one mechanism

Both modes are PPS with a Samsung-specified profile. A charger that advertises the right PPS range at the right current gets the phone's fastest charge; one that offers only fixed Power Delivery levels charges a Galaxy, but slowly.

The cable decides SFC 2.0

45 W at the voltages Galaxy uses means more than 3 A on the cable. A cable marked for 3 A limits the phone to Super Fast Charging at 25 W even on a 45 W adapter; a 5 A cable is what lets SFC 2.0 happen.

On the ERONIX range

Fermi30 supports Super Fast Charging. Fermi45, Fermi65 and Entropy67 support Super Fast Charging and Super Fast Charging 2.0. The same adapters carry USB Power Delivery for iPhone, which is why one charger serves both ecosystems.

Honest limits

  • Only Galaxy models that implement SFC 2.0 reach 45 W; the rest charge at 25 W over SFC.
  • Peak rates assume a cool battery below about half charge; the phone tapers as it fills.
  • A Galaxy phone decides its own charging behaviour on any adapter; the adapter can only offer the profile.
